Party Planner Survey Sheds Light On Life Of Singapore's Wealthy

In a sign of rising wealth levels in Singapore, a recent survey by Singaporean party planner My Party Rocks shows that parents are willing to spend upwards of S$1500 ($1200) per children's party and are likely to hire a professional planner to get things done. The survey, which gathered responses from 100 Singaporean parents, was conducted in January 2014. The results showed that 70 per cent of respondents feel that birthday parties are important for their children, yet 46 per cent are too busy to plan them. Out of the parents that would throw parties, 54 per cent spend S$401 to S$800 on each celebration, about 15 per cent shell out S$800 to S$1,500, while 7 per cent said they would spend at least $1,500. Over 40 per cent said they are open to hiring professional planners because they are too busy to organise themselves. While party planning might seem a relatively frivolous issue, this kind of survey illustrates both the wealth of certain classes of individuals in the region and also how they behave in juggling their "cash-rich/time-poor" lifestyle. "Over the years we have seen the increase in demand for children's parties. This might have to do with rising wealth in Singapore and the ever increasing demand on parents' schedules," said Juliet Abdullah, founder and party planner of My Party Rocks. According to World Wealth Report released by Capgemi and RBC Wealth Management in 2013, the number and wealth of Asia-Pacific's high net worth individuals increase at double and triple the rates of HNWIs in the rest of the world in a span of five years (2007-2012). Asia-Pacific may have fallen second to North America as the largest wealth market by HNWI population in 2012, but this is expected to change as Asia continues to be driven by wealth growth at 9.8 per cent annually to reach around $15.9 trillion by 2015.
